Christmas in the Cabin

We had a little Christmas party at the cabin. It was a delight to see Brad and Katie at the cabin again! As part of the party, we finished stringing the cranberries for the Christmas tree. This was something I had never done, and it added a warm, contrasting color that made the whole room [...]

It’s All About Fruit

I had a trip to North Carolina this week. My first fruit was a mandarin orange (Citrus reticulate) from a cold hardy (to Zone selection. It went down nicely as I parked outside the Houston Intercontinental Airport before my trip. It was easy to peel and relatively seedless. For some reason I thought it had [...]

Instead it looks like we might have a very hard freeze tonight. Good thing we planted the oxblood lilies yesterday! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MIrSvx0Qrw] It was sunny [...]

Paperwhites Blooming with Other Narcissus Soon to Come

From tin roofed Texas farm houses to magnificent Victorian structures, many of the old homes are sharing plots with stands of green foliage topped with loose, round balls of white flowers. It might be fun to hunt for a few stands around town. If you have any good pictures, send them in to info@southernbulbs.com and [...]
